November 6, 2003: Gregory Sun, AIA, Principal of PBWS Architects, moderated a workshop held at the Community College Facility Coalition’s (CCFC) 10th annual conference in Sacramento. The CCFC provides advocacy for facilities issues and furnishes information and services to community college districts and their business partners on facility matters.

Entitled “Partnering: Management Techniques for Successful Construction Projects,” the workshop focused upon the essence of partnering—clear lines of communication, a shared vision for success, and a transparent relationship between team members. Panelists James V. Vitale, AIA, Associate, PBWS, recounted his partnering experience on a federal project, and Steve Pellegren, Vice President of Preconstruction Services, C.W. Driver, provided insight on partnering from the contractor’s perspective. Also noted was the Division of the State Architect’s (DSA) increasing participation in strategic partnering. The DSA has recently established benchmarks for future partnering success via its pilot program with the San Diego City Schools.
