Holos Community Project Homekey Program

Laurel Grove

Whittier, California

PBWS worked with Holos Communities on Laurel Grove in Whittier as part of LA County’s Project Homekey program. The project converted a former Motel 6 into 97 units of permanent supportive housing. PBWS provided full A/E services as well as furniture and finish selection.

The design specifically centered on community and sustainability with a pocket park, living lung, and communal areas. The project included a small grove of fruit trees and gardens irrigated with recycled wastewater from the building’s laundry rooms, potentially redirecting over half a million gallons of water a year. The pocket park for tenants and community members encouraged residents to spend time in shared spaces.
