Manzanita Hall Phase 3 Office Renovation

Camarillo, California

The Manzanita Hall Phase 3 project represents a significant transformation for the Martin V. Smith School of Business & Economics at CSU Channel Islands. PBWS Architects provided full architectural services for this $3.8 million renovation, which reconfigured approximately 4,000 square feet of interior space to create a welcoming new main lobby and institute space.

The redesigned interior replaces former classrooms, faculty offices, and restrooms with a vibrant reception area, small group meeting rooms, active learning classrooms, and a student-focused study lounge. The renovation also includes the addition of single-user, gender-neutral restrooms, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity and accessibility.

A major component of the project is the complete redesign of the adjacent 27,000-square-foot courtyard, previously unimproved. Now a dynamic outdoor environment, the courtyard serves as a central hub for student engagement, daily use, and campus events such as receptions and graduation ceremonies. With direct access from the new classrooms rooms, the courtyard enhances connectivity between indoor and outdoor spaces and serves as the primary public and VIP entry to the MVS School offices.

This project supports CSU Channel Islands’ mission of placing students at the center of the educational experience by creating spaces that encourage integrative learning, collaboration across disciplines, and meaningful engagement—both inside and outside the classroom.
